Frequently Asked Questions

  • The traditional form of BJJ is practiced wearing a traditional martial arts uniform called a 'gi' or 'kimono'. The gi allows for a wider range of techniques, as practitioners can grab and manipulate the cloth to control their opponent, set up submissions, or defend against attacks. Their are less leg attacks and the game is slower allowing students to focus more on positional control.

In No-Gi BJJ, practitioners wear shorts and a rashguard instead of the traditional gi. Since there's no cloth to grab, the techniques are more reliant on body grips, and the game is faster paced. No-Gi emphasizes control using only the body as opposed to fabric grips in the gi.

Both styles have their merits, and training in both can provide a comprehensive understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

  • Tiny Kids (Ages 3-4) classes focus on movement and jiu jitsu based positional games, but doesn’t teach any submission.

Little Kids (Ages 5-9) classes start grappling for positional control with our advanced little kids starting to understand how to control a submission but not finish it.

Big Kids (Ages 10-14) learn submissions holds and how to apply them safely in a supervised environment with a strict emphasis on them not being used outside the gym.
