All human beings have an innate love of problem solving. What enabled us to survive in our evolutionary history was the ability to solve problems. All of us carry within us the innate desire to solve complicated problems and we derive great satisfaction from successful solutions. Jiu Jitsu is one of the great problem solving activities. its problem solving on a level that few other activities can match. Most problems we solve are static problems, the problem doesn’t change, Jiu Jitsu on the other hand is a dynamic problem, as you get confronted with a problem and you try to create a solution for it you have a thinking, sentient opponent who identifies your attempts at a solution and tries to change the problem, to create a new one for you. And so as you go to solve a given problem rapidly you have to switch to a new problem and then on to new one in an escalating process. You are trying to solve the problem that you opponent is creating faster then they can create new problems and that is what makes jiu jitsu so fascinating and so dynamic, it has to de done in a certain time frame.
I’m a mother who took up BJJ recently with my 11 year old son. Initially it was to encourage my son to get involved. Now I’m addicted. Joel is a great communicator, patient and a really positive energy - My son also attends his kids classes- The community here is fantastic and the guys are such brilliant role models for my son - Strong men who are equally kind, encouraging and supportive! There are no egos in this place, no jocks or roid-heads trying to out do one another - just a really good bunch of people with a lot of heart
Instructor Joel is very approachable, and pays great attention to detail when showing techniques. He is one of the best coaches I’ve had the pleasure to learn from.
I was actually never interested in martial arts but then I had a try, I so wanted to get into it! I really wanted to do it so I booked all the times I could. Now I’m really glad that I started Jiu Jitsu as it gives me self confidence and it improves my health. Gracie Jiu Jitsu- a sport combining fun, socialization and life skills.
I’ve known Joel for 10 years through Jiu Jitsu and he is not only a skilled coach and competitor but he is a great person too, something overlooked when learning martial arts. There is no one better !
Gracie Balmain is nothing short of fantastic. Sure they give you all the skills to improve your technique and performance but what sets them apart is also their focus on injury prevention and safety. Even top athletes can’t do too much when injured on the sideline. Well done guys, quality service through and through.
BJJ for kids has taught our daughter Confidence, focus, discipline and responsibility. It has helped her fight bullying and assisted her in managing conflict. Three years on and never looked back. Highly recommended sport.
Love this place
